“An android with a secret past. A prince on the run. Magic & Mayhem. Help create an episode of a hip & new fantasy epic, Cannon Busters!”

Support Cannon Busters

The Show:

Cannon Busters is an animated adventure about the value of friendship and just how far one is willing to go to maintain it. If The Wizard of Oz met the Hidden Fortress with influences derived from Escaflowne, hip-hop, and classic RPGs — you get Cannon Busters, one wild ride of fun, suspense, action, and wackiness. It’s a roadshow-style adventure of epic proportions!

The Story:

Follow the adventures and exploits of S.A.M, a high-end, royal-class friendship droid who’s joined by a quirky, discarded maintenance robot and a brash, deadly fugitive. Together, the unlikely trio embarks on an unforgettable journey in a fantastic and dangerous world in search of S.A.M’s best friend, the heir to a powerful kingdom under siege.

So something unique about Ed, Edd, and Eddy occured to me today.

So I was thinking about cartoon casts, how shows like LPS constantly have new characters show up to help incite the plot, then about how much that happens in other cartoons. You have your core cast, maybe some side characters, and then there’s these one or two episode characters that show up for the inciting the plot of a particular episode.

Then it occured to me. Ed, Edd and Eddy never did that. They established 13 characters ( including plank, I hope I counted right) and never had to introduce anyone that actually shows up again. They were sure they could do every plot they could ever need with just these 13 people. It had  such a solid routine for an episode they never needed to. And when it wasn’t that routine they used some sort of event or object (like that boomerang) to incite a plot. That’s really unique among cartoons, and even tv shows in general. I can’t really think of any other shows that managed to go through with ought ever adding to the cast or having one off characters.

You could argue that some things count like Edd’s parents who only appeared through sticky notes or plank’s parents, but that would be a bit nitpicky.
