That’s hardly tumblr. That’s fandoms in general.

If there is a work a section of its fans will turn it into the exact opposite.

For example super heroes have so many au versions where instead they are in  a school, or office or something where they no longer even have their powers and are just normal people.

 There’s plenty of comedic silent hill fanwork.

 One of the best examples would be all the MLP stuff where they are horrible murderers or some sort of super serious story.

I don’t see it as a “mixed blessing” or anything like that. They are all good. Tumblr just provides a place where we can see a lot of people doing it at once quickly, but its hardly tumblr’s doing. All of it could have been seen before on DA or Fanfic.net.

 I think theres so much with Five Nights at Freddy’s though becuase, as it actually is in the game there isn’t really much to it except a slight backstory. Its interesting but not too interesting. These more light hearted fanwoks add personality to each robot thats not existant at all in the actuall thing. And also makes it like a cartoon. Particularly these interpretations remind me of Foster’s Home for Imaginary friends.
