'hate breeds hate' is the funniest slogan to me because its literally people saying “yea you might live in a society where you're actively oppressed and people are bigoted towards you daily but if you get angry and hate those people for it you're as bad as them!!” like these people expect minorities to always be meek and polite to their oppressors to make sure their activism is acceptable and inoffensive. if you genuinely think that someone is “as bad as their oppressor” for showing frustration and anger at how they have been treated you can suck deeply from my butt
Its not about being meek and polite its about that counter hate isn’t going to make people listen to you. Counter hate makes everyone think you’re some kind of reactionary freak and makes it hard for the people you’re tying to convince to take you seriously. Like the misconception of man-hating feminists that came from feminists that used counter hate as their method, which is why so many people misunderstand feminism and the same reason so many people are coming to misunderstand the various forms of social justice this website.
No one is telling you to be quiet or to be meek and accepting. In fact BE LOUD AS FUCK. But being loud with hatred isn’t going to make anyone listen. You have to be INFORMATIVE. I’ve learned a lot from different social justice people on my time on this site, and it has never once been from the people who yell about “cis scum” or other stuff like that. It has been from the people who take the time to teach about issues and make other people understand.
Short version: No one will want to help you if you make youself look like an ass even if they’re an ass first. But you can educate people, and Then they can turn around.
