id say its really uh, promising? like theyve definitely got me interested with this alpha. like, the visuals seem nice, the characters have nice designs, some have some interesting mechanics, the general systems are done really well and also the netcode seems really good since its ggpo
the only stuff i’m a bit ???? on is some of its more experimental ideas, like the single button specials and cooldowns. a lot of the concern i have is kind of on a meta level, like whether those things are really going to bring anything to the table for the better or if they’re just super arbitrary etc etc so its hard to think about very much right now
my two biggest actual gripes with the alpha as is are
- shoryukening a jump-happy opponent gives them 6 seconds to keep jumping at you afterwards because your DP is sitting in cooldown and you dont have good AA normals
- as of right now, you don’t get to see the opponent’s special cooldowns or their kinetic (rc/fadc) gauge, only their health and super meter. i dont know if that’s a design choice they want to stick with but right now it means you can’t know for sure offhand which specials they can or cant use, or whether or not they can fadc out of them, etc etc which is really dumb
again though, really promising! my attention is grabbed
