I am so excited for Street fighter 5 like where do I begin!
Okay so first of that background looks slick as fuck. It looks like an awesome place to fight in and the lightning is great. Chun Li and Ryu’s models look significantly better. Same artstyle though Ryu’s muscles still look weird to me, but they are just rendered so much smoother they look really good. The calligraphic ink effect and the other one I think is paint look so much better now and are being put to way more use than just focus attacks.
The ink effect might be replacing the yellow flashing of EX moves. Which is a great artistic decision and still makes it clear when one is being used. You may have noticed the characters never flash yellow in the game play video and only some attacks have ink, so that is why I’ve come to this assumption. While on effects the particle effects being used for hadoukens and other fire balls looks great. It makes it look so much more fluid like actual moving energy instead of a solid object with a trail.
Onto gameplay the one of the first things people will notice is some of these combos. Chun did a 3 hit air combo and then followed it with some sort of otg that kinda resembled a down attack of Tekken or a pursuit attack of Darkstalkers. Now this kinda air combo might be specifc to Chun but it still seems incredible. The next thing I noticed and also got me real excited is the characters seem to have some sort of power up state. From what I can see of it I am reminded of overdrive in BlazBlue or Instinct mode in Killer Instinct. In those modes characters get their own specific buffs instead of something like X factor that does the same thing for everyone. Chun after doing hers (around 0:34 in the gameplay video) gains a blue aura around her wrists. It seems to enhance her special moves as immediately afterwards she does a double kikouken, her other two specials gain a similar blue paint like aura though I can’t exactly see the enhancements. When Ryu does his (around 0:53) he gains an electic aura around his fists. His hadouken becomes multihitting and it may make his moves combo faster.Third point he does Dengjin hadouken during this and Chun Li did a super during hers. There may be some sort of super you can only do in this state or they just did the super while in this state you don’t have to be in it. Hard to tell.
There is this now wall breaks which extended the stage and is definitely going to change up spacing and corner combos. More importantly it will make what stage you pick actually matter, so no more tournaments constantly fighting on training stage. Also there are guard breaks which is definalty going to shift up the gameplay a lot. So far it seems this will become a much more aggressive game than SF4.
Last thing. Ryu used Denjin Hadouken here which probably means that this takes place after street fighter 3. That means we might see the returns of Necro, Sean, Oro, Alex and whoever else didn’t make it into 4.
