Thank you Nintendo.

I may not have managed to buy myself a pink 3DS, but at least now I can have a pink theme.

……..Lemme know when you come out with a good one ok??

Viva le Pink!

No but for real thank god so many of the characters are unlocked. I don’t see whats so great about unlocking characters in a game like smash at all.

To me it honestly just feels like a big annoying hindrance. “I want to play DuckHunt the most in this game” “Well too bad you have to do X number of matches or X objective before you can unlock him” Sure I can just play someone else until then (Yoshi) but its still getting in the way of what I actually want to be doing. This is an entire character and play style I want to get to, not some cosmetic difference. I don’t mind unlock able characters in something like Mario kart because it doesn’t make a huge difference. In smash I’m just being forced to deal with not playing the character I want to play right away. Also there is was nothing more annoying than going to someone else’s home to play melee in brawl back in the day and they wouldn’t have all the characters. That just sucked.

I don’t find it fun. I don’t find it rewarding. I find it a waste of my time.

Is it a bad design decision? No. It makes a lot of other people feel good. I just don’t like it.

(that said in this one the unlock-able characters are unlocked preeetty quickly so. Its not actually that annoying)

cigarettecantaloupes asked: How are you liking the new Smash Bros game so far?

I agree completely. I’d like to add that I can’t believe how much is already unlocked at the start. It feels like the game was made to please the fighting game audience that just wants everything unlocked at the start so they can skip the fun part and just have competitive tournaments.

Yeah. It really bums me out. I know I might be a minority on this whole thing but it still sucks to just throw ALL of that out instead of augment it.

Normally when I critique a game like this I get a flood of hate messages on here (you guys know that). I didn’t get any at all about this, so I have a feeling I’m not alone in thinking this about the game

Very good points. I was kinda surprised at how many characters there were from the start, too, and how fast characters get unlocked. Oo I’m still having fun, though.

I’m really really just hoping that the Wii U version will get a full-blown story mode like Brawl did with SSE. Because SSE was honestly my favorite part of the entire game.

Shame it won’t. Sakurai stated that they won’t be bringing back story mode for Sm4sh. Why? People shared the SSE cutscenes on the internet. Quote:

Overall I’m enjoying it, but as someone who mostly plays single player I think a lot was left to be desired. The game has fun gameplay and great characters, but no personality. I’m not saying the Story Mode of Brawl was perfect or anything, but it was still full of Nintendo magic and story stuff that contextualized why everything was there. There were things that MADE you have to use a certain character. This new 3DS game feels like an airport designed to get you to multiplayer stuff as fast as possible. It’s a bummer that the teasers/trailers for this game were these awesome cinematic blowouts, but there’s none of that in the game. Even the woman from Kid Icarus got some anime sequence at E3 or whatever. Where’s that level of character in this game? Not even a little vignette after you beat it? It’s the same kind of thing we talked about on the podcast, with Mario Kart 8 not having a trophy ceremony. A small, but important presentation detail. Again, don’t get me wrong- lots of fun modes and multiplayer is way fun, but my ultimate enjoyment of this series honestly lies in just playing myself and unlocking absolutely everything, and the presentation of that just sucks.

“Unfortunately, the movie scenes we worked hard to create were uploaded onto the internet.” Sakurai said. “You can only truly wow a player the first time he sees [a cutscene]. I felt if players saw the cutscenes outside of the game, they would no longer serve as rewards for playing the game, so I’ve decided against having them.”

EDIT: That’s why they made the epic cinematic trailers for the characters. Instead of having the wowing cinematics in-game, they opted to make them for and put them on the internet, where they’d end up anyway.

Well, as someone who never looked that stuff up online, it sucks to receive less of a product as punishment for what somebody else did. It isn’t all about cutscenes here, but just having NO character personality at all is lame and hearing it explained away with “people leaked stuff online” is just, wow man

Well part of it is also that a lot of fans did not actually really like the subspace emissary. By which I mean the game play of Subspace emissary. Basically the cut-scenes were leaked online AND that was all most people actually cared about. They cared about the cut scenes and story of it but not much about actually playing it. Aside from the cut scenes for a lot of people it was just to unlock characters easier.

So it was also a matter of “why add this mode that people care more about watching than actually playing it”.  I don’t have any actual numbers for this of course. Its mostly based of reactions I’ve read on other websites. Now that it is gone  and the game is almost out way more people are gonna come out about how they want it back. Which is the nature of pretty much anything that gets taken out of a game.

As for the first stuff. My opinion on so much not having to be unlocked? THANK GOD.

I never want to see “let’s make this into a show” again on this website lest we forget….

I really don’t think “We failed once. We should never hope again” is a good stance to take with this kind of thing. Even if its just a joke.

A simple bit of art advice for getting ideas for character design.

Even if you aren’t a big fan of going outside it is a good idea to take a walk every now and again. Observe the people on the street as you walk. I find that usually some people are wearing very interesting clothes that make good character outfits. Plus if you want a character who doesn’t wear anything special everyone around you is an example of normal clothes. This is also good for hairstyles and body types. Don’t stare at people though or a problem might start. Some people might let you take their picture if you ask politely though it could potentially turn out bad so consider it before doing so.

Looking around clothing, hair, and jewelry stores is also a good idea. Also in stores its a good idea to check out the magazines at the counter and brows through them. While it may not have as much diversity as just looking around you can see what the media fashionable styles are.

Its interesting how “Everyone exists for a reason” and “no one has any real purpose” are both reassuring statements depending on who you think of them.

With the first one its like “You’re right! I am important, I can amount to something!” which is great encouragement. With the second one its like “You’re right. I don’t need to worry so hard. Life just is”

I am a fan of lessons or ideas that are opposite but equally good messages.

Its so dumb that I want a MLP Dynasty Warrior games really bad.

I want to play as Princess Luna defeating like 60 poniesat once!

My problem with most posts defending furries and anthropomorphic art is that they are always like “Not all furries are into yiff, fetishes and sex in fursuits”  which is true. We arn’t all like that, but its still often said in a way that kinda sounds  like “Those are the badguys. We aren’t all them” Well screw that.

Where is the defense of them? What is so horrible about yiff? What is so terrible about fetishes? Whats so gross and deplorable about fursuit sex? None of these acts harm or do anything bad to anyone. Why does that stuff have to be the “Dark side” of a fandom? That kind of thing is bullshit.

Some people get off to macros, wolf girls, gigantic sized genitals that make no sense. That’s not a bad thing! Its a completely neutral thing that does nothing bad to anyone. That should be included just as much as establishing that not all furries are fetishist, because there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I came up with some friends for Raylight. Give me some time in SAi and they’ll be all nice and colored and actually in the same perspective.

Sometimes I feel like a fool for barely knowing any american developers. My game tastes are super rooted in Japanese stuff. I know like no one in the country I’d actually end up working in.
